Anantnag, Apr 12 (KNO): The residents of Zamalgam village in Dooru hamlet of South Kashmir's Anantnag are facing acute shortage of water for past several years. Local residents told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that a scheme has been established in the village but due to unknown reasons it has been kept inactive due to which locals are suffering. The village has around 300 families and almost every household has been connected with new pipeline but pipeline has remained dry from day one in most of the portions of the village. “When the PHE department established the lift water scheme in the village in 2019, everyone was happy that they will get potable water but the scheme has so far been inactive, resulting in water shortages in the area,” the locals said, adding that “every machinery to make scheme fully functional is lying there but due to unknown reasons most of the machinery is yet to installed.” He said that they have brought these issues in notice of higher ups several times but nothing is being done on ground. “Every time authorities assure us that you will get potable water soon but their assurances on ground proved a hoax,” the residents said. Meanwhile, an official of the concerned department said that work is going on and within three to four weeks entire village will get potable water supply—(KNO)
